This past Sunday I was looking up Mother’s Day messages on-line and ran across this one by Dr. Tony Evans…the content of this message is everything a godly woman would want for her son or daughter. This is one of my favorite passages in Scripture, because this lady had exhausted all options – mentally, physically, emotionally and financially…and came to find out that it was only Jesus that she needed. Which is so true of how many of us approach Jesus as well – as our leftover or last option. In this message about the woman with the issue of bleeding, Dr. Tony Evans explains how the crowd was pressing against Jesus, but He only felt His power leave Him when the woman humbled herself before Him, and went low for the tassel / the hem of His garment / the Word. Tony explains that “Jesus wants to do more than just give you stuff [which is what most of the crowd who was there wanted]…He doesn’t mind giving you stuff, He doesn’t mind your body working better, He doesn’t mind you being healed. I mean, He wants you to be better, but He wants you to be daughter, or son. He wants you to enter into intimate relationship with Him – not just get your blessing and go home. He wants you to enter into intimacy with Him.”
Begins at about the 25:30 – 26:06 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_-efz-jza0 Do you approach your relationship with Jesus as one where you’re selfishly looking for a blessing from Him and you won’t return home until you receive it? Or are you approaching your relationship with Him in a way in which you genuinely want to get to know Him more intimately each and every day…being in His word, and in wanting to get to know Him at a deeper level. Luke 8:43-48 (NKJV) 43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. 45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ” 46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” 47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. 48 And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NKJV) but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
